God Has a Side---Be on It

The 4th of July has come and gone signaling the beginning of the political season. I know, you're sick and tired of politics already. So am I. We should begin by saying politicians of both parties are guilty of some level of chicanery. That's why they're called politicians and not statesmen, as in days gone by. Still, some are bad and some are worse. Much worse. Don't vote for worse. Which party favors the destruction of innocent life, while supporting preservation of the lives of very evil men? Call your Congressman and ask some basic questions such as, "Are you pro choice or pro life?" Don't give them wiggle room. Watch out for the "only when the life of the mother is in danger" response. With that caveat, a pregnant woman can get an abortion all nine months of pregnancy. All she has to do is tell a doctor, "If I don't get an abortion, I'll kill myself." She just ostensibly put her own life in danger.

One of the presidential candidates opposes "water boarding" of terrorists, but believes beheading unborn babies in the birth canal is OK. Do you really want someone with that ghoulish point of view occupying the highest office in the land?Liberal Supreme Court justices, most of whom were appointed by Democratic presidents, recently ruled not to allow the death penalty for men who rape innocent little children. Conservative Supreme Court justices, due to recent appointments by President George Bush, recently prevailed in another decision. They ruled citizens in Washington, D.C., should be allowed to own firearms. Heretofore only criminals had guns and they had one of the highest murder rates in the nation. The next president will help to shape the makeup of the Supreme Court for decades to come. Your vote counts.One might ask of this of the Democratic Party; "How have you fallen, you who weaken the nation?" What happened to the ideals of FDR and JFK?Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid declared last year about the conflict in Iraq, "The war is lost." Of course it wasn't-the surge worked. It's true it's costing billions of dollars, but we have not been attacked again.

That matters to most Americans. Some believe Sen. Reid wanted us to lose the war for his own party's political gain. No patriot, for sure. Democrats hold the view the U.S. Constitution is a "living document" to be reinterpreted according to evolving mores. Most Republicans believe moral values do not evolve, they are the same today as they were when God personally gave them to Moses 3,200 years ago. Thus we are not just in a culture war, we are in a spiritual war. The Democratic National Committee issued a proclamation June 3 in support of homosexual marriage. Under the aegis of Howard Dean, they are supporting-not civil unions, not equal insurance benefits for gay partners-gay marriage. It's time for the voters to pause and reflect on whether the Democratic Party is now out of step with our closely held moral values. During the Civil War, a northern lady approached President Abraham Lincoln and said, "Mr. President, I surely hope that God is on our side." President Lincoln replied, "Dear lady, I am not the least bit concerned with God being on our side, but it is my constant prayer that we be on His side." The point is, God has a side. He gave us a rule book-it's called the Bible. Your vote counts. Furthermore, someday you will give account of how, and if, you vote.
