During the final 3 1/2 years of church history-after the 7-year tribulation begins-the church will descend into total apostasy. Both Paul and John record this and Jesus Himself describes the demise of the church in a one verse parable, Matthew 13:33. Recall in the Bible leaven always represents something evil. The church Jesus loved and died for will finish its course totally filled with sin. After the church without spot or wrinkle is caught away to meet the Lord in the air, the church "left behind" will make an alliance with the 12th Imam, an Islamic "holy man." In fact Revelation 17:3 references the church as "sitting on" his back during the first half of the tribulation. The church is identified as "Mystery Babylon the great, the mother of harlots" (Revelation 17:5). Harlotry in the Bible represents leaving the one true God to embrace errant theology. The nexus of the error is Jesus is not God, but a good man and a prophet, a view held in Islam today. The apostate church reaches its ignominious end 3 1/2 years after the rapture, when burned by order of the 12th Imam (Revelation 17:12, 16).
It is worthy to note a Catholic saint named Malachy prophesied a list of all future popes in 1139 in Rome. Our previous pope-the beloved John Paul II-was prophesied to be "of the solar eclipse." Interestingly enough, solar eclipses occurred the day he was born and again on the day he was buried. The sitting pope-Pope Benedict-was "the Glory of the Olive" according to the prophecy. He is from the Olivetan Order. The next pope-according to the prophecy-will be called "Peter the Roman." He is to be the final pope and after his reign Rome will burn, according to St. Malachy. The city that will burn is a city that sits on seven hills (Revelation 17:9) and was further identified as the city that reigned over the kings of the earth in 95 AD (Revelation 17:18)-both clear references to Rome.
The question then becomes, why would the final-presumably apostate-pope make an alliance with the Islamic 12th Imam (holy man) we call the Antichrist? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad-the president of Iran-cannot be the 12th Imam, because he is not an Arab. But he can assume the role of kingmaker. This story from FOXNews.com Feb. 28 says it all: "The world's greatest superpower is not the United States . . . or Russia . . .or China, says Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It's Iran." According to Patrick Cox-writing in the Levitt Letter in June 2006-"Before making his nuclear announcement (that Iran had joined the club of nuclear nations), according to Iranian journalists, Ahmadinejad spent several hours in private consultation with the 12th Imam. . ." If that's true, Iran's president has already handpicked the 12th Imam (Antichrist). While the common people in Moslem nations are being told the 12th Imam has been in the "greater occultation" for more than 1,000 years, the Islamic power brokers expect him to be one of their own, who will ride forth on a white horse. In fact, all Moslem heads of state are said to keep a white horse in their stable just in case they get the call. Saddam Hussein had a mural of himself entering Jerusalem on a white horse in one of his palaces.
Much of the acrimony between the Sunnis and the Shia is over this question. Who gets to be the 12th Imam? Nobody's quite sure who Ahmadinejad has chosen, but it's a pretty certain bet it will be a Shiite. After all, the 12th Imam's Biblical name is King of Babylon (Isaiah 14:4). Babylon is a Shiite stronghold. Presumably, once they get the apostate Christian pope on board, they can then rule the world.
This is one future moment in history I definitely do not want to see for myself.

Interesting. I'm not convinced yet that the 12th Imam will be the antichrist. But I do find it amazing that Shiites are hoping and praying for someone who fits the bill pretty closely to the one that Christians would call Antichrist.
I don't think we'll know for sure who Antichrist is until he is revealed in the Temple but I suspect we'll have some pretty good guesses.
But please let me just point out Mark Biltz, who has some very interesting teachings on how we may expect the timing of return of Messiah. http://www.elshaddaiministries.us/
Although he is careful not to set dates, there is an apparent link to Messiahs return with the Hebrew festivals. I'm convinced enough to say that if he is correct, we may see a peace treaty signed with Israel in late September of 2008. (That my assertion, not his.)
In any case, watch. Christ is returning and the majority of our churches are sleeping.
